EMI Micro-Program in "Sustainable Transitions in Global Governance"

Program Aims & Missions
 

In order to utilize a fully English-taught learning environment and cultivate sustainability competencies with an interdisciplinary and global perspective, the International College of Innovation, National Chengchi University (hereinafter referred to as "the College") hereby establishes the "EMI Micro-Program in Sustainable Transitions in Global Governance" (hereinafter referred to as "the Micro-Program") for student enrollment.

Program Structure
 

• Students are required to complete the following credits.

• • 3 credits of Fundamental Cours
  • 3 credits of Core Cours
  • 6 credits of Advanced Courses
    (A total of 12 credits is required.)
     

• A maximum of two courses, totaling no more than six credits, taught by the same instructor may be counted toward the requirements of this Micro-Program. 

Program Features
 

The core mission of this micro-program is to advance students' learning from sustainability knowledge to sustainability competencies. Sustainability challenges are inherently complex and cross-disciplinary; knowledge alone is insufficient for addressing real-world sustainability problems. Students must develop the capacity to integrate knowledge, analyze problems, and take effective action. Drawing on the sustainability competencies framework widely adopted in international sustainability education, this program focuses on cultivating the following five key competencies:

• Systems Thinking Competency: The ability to understand the complex interconnections among social, economic, and environmental systems, and to analyze how local and global sustainability problems influence one another across scales.
• Anticipatory Competency: The ability to analyze and evaluate multiple future scenarios of sustainable development, and to understand the implications of present-day decisions for future generations.
• Normative Competency: The ability to identify, reflect on, and negotiate the diverse values, equity concerns, and ethical issues embedded in sustainable development.
• Strategic Competency: The ability to design and implement feasible interventions and transition strategies that drive sustainability transformations at the individual, organizational, and societal levels.
• Interpersonal Competency: The ability to communicate and collaborate effectively in cross-cultural and interdisciplinary teams, and to understand and integrate the perspectives of diverse stakeholders.

Through a sequenced curriculum of foundational, core, and advanced courses, combined with an English-medium learning environment and interdisciplinary case discussions, this program enables students to practice these competencies in real-world global governance contexts, preparing them to become interdisciplinary professionals capable of translating sustainability ideals into concrete action.

 

Program Regulations

• Eligibility: Open to all undergraduate students of NCCU.
• Application: Students who have completed all required courses and credits for the Microprogram with passing grades must apply for the Certificate of Completion from the Microprogram before the end date of their final semester.
• Fees:
  • Undergraduate students: No additional credit fees.
