Enhancing Understanding: ICI’s Workshop Sheds Light on CEE-Taiwan Relations

An exclusive educational event unfolded at National Chengchi University from October 16 to October 19, 2023, providing students with an exceptional opportunity to explore the intricate web of relations between Central and Eastern European (CEE) nations and Taiwan. The “GOVERNANCE & DEMOCRACY IN CENTRAL EUROPE” online workshop, organized by the International College of Innovation (ICI) in collaboration with the Czech Taiwanese Business Chamber (CTBC), brought together students from diverse academic backgrounds within the social sciences and humanities.


This exclusive workshop was open solely to National Chengchi University students, creating an intimate and engaging learning environment. Throughout the workshop, participants delved into various aspects of CEE-Taiwan relations, with each session offering a unique perspective.


Some of the highlights included discussions on CEE-Taiwanese Economic Relations, emphasizing the potential for economic growth and cooperation between these regions. The workshop also explored the intricacies of CEE-Taiwanese Political and Cultural Relations, providing attendees with a deeper understanding of the dynamics that underpin these connections.


Moreover, students engaged with sessions that covered the history and culture of CEE, the evolving relationship between the European Union and China, and the political and economic transformations underway in CEE countries. Notably, discussions extended to the concept of hegemony in CEE and the implications of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine for European security, offering a timely and nuanced analysis of the complex geopolitical landscape in the region.


Another area of focus was the potential for cooperation between the European Union, the Czech Republic, and Taiwan in the civil society sector, highlighting opportunities for collaboration beyond conventional diplomatic and economic spheres.


Participants left the workshop with a broadened worldview and a deeper appreciation for the multifaceted nature of international relations. The “GOVERNANCE & DEMOCRACY IN CENTRAL EUROPE” workshop’s resounding success underscored the significance of educational initiatives that promote international understanding and cooperation.
