First-Year Enrollment Checklist

Resident Visa / ARC

Resident Visa

Foreign students enrolling in degree programs at NCCU should apply for a resident visa with the purpose of pursuing studies at their local Taiwan representative office in order to enter Taiwan.

Visa Application: 外交部領事局 (MOFA)

ARC

The ARC, or Alien Resident Certificate, is your identification card and re-entry permit in Taiwan. Foreigners holding a resident visa or changing to a resident visa after being in Taiwan must apply for an ARC at a National Immigration Agency (NIA) service center within 30 days of arriving in Taiwan. The NIA encourages foreign students to utilize the “Students Online Application System” to apply.

ARC Application: 內政部移民署 (MOI)

Overseas Medical & Injury Insurance

All new degree students are required by Taiwan regulations to carry overseas medical and injury insurance covering their first six months in Taiwan. You are asked to show your proof of insurance (which must be issued in English) to the Office of International Cooperation during registration. If you do not have valid overseas medical and injury insurance, you will need to purchase group medical insurance through the Office of International Cooperation. Those who are already insured under Taiwan’s National Health Insurance do not need to purchase separate insurance.

For more information on Overseas Medical Insurance:中央健康保險局 (NHS)

Certifying Foreign Degrees & Diplomas

Prior to leaving for Taiwan, you should have your degree and transcripts verified by the Taiwanese representative office that has jurisdiction over where you received the degree. These verification documents must be given to the Office of International Cooperation during registration. Documents that are not in Chinese or English must be translated, and both the original documents and translations must be verified by the Taiwanese representative office. Please note that you will not be allowed to complete registration procedures until required all verified documents are submitted. Degrees and transcripts received in Taiwan do not need to be verified.

Health Examination

You are required to complete a Taiwanese government health examination within one month of the start of the semester. To save time and money, we strongly recommend you undergo the examination offered on campus.
