On the evening of October 2, the International College of Innovation (ICI) at National Chengchi University hosted the Mid-Autumn gathering “One Family, One Moonlit Night,” drawing nearly 50 faculty members, staff, and students, with a high proportion of international participants. To help students who could not return home feel the warmth of the holiday, the group gathered at the rooftop of the Research and Innovation Incubation Complex—the highest point on campus—where they enjoyed the Taipei night view and the full moon, creating a warm and memorable celebration.

ICI has long been committed to cultivating an inclusive and diverse learning environment that respects every student’s cultural background and daily life experience. Recognizing the challenges that international students may face beyond academics, the college actively offers support through a variety of cultural and social events, both dynamic and low-key. These activities not only create more opportunities for interaction outside the classroom but also strengthen understanding and friendships between local and international students, easing their adaptation to campus life and supporting their academic growth.

Throughout the evening, students shared festival traditions from their home cultures. Vietnamese students explained that lanterns are hung to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. Although Paraguay does not observe this holiday, major celebrations such as Christmas bring families together to enjoy barbecue, corn cakes, and other traditional foods. Korean students shared that Chuseok is one of the most important holidays in Korea, with families gathering to enjoy dishes such as jeon (savory pancakes) and spicy rice cakes. Taiwanese students described the custom of backyard barbecues that extend late into the night, bringing the festive atmosphere outdoors. Through this exchange, students not only learned about different cultures but also discovered a shared spirit of reunion across traditions.

During the creative “Pomelo Challenge” , students showcased their imagination using pomelos—some painted, some carved—sparking laughter with their inventive designs and playful ideas. Mooncakes and pomelo treats were also provided, allowing participants to enjoy traditional flavors while soaking in the festive atmosphere. The highlight of the evening came when students and mentors headed up to the fifth-floor rooftop viewing deck to overlook Wenshan District and Taipei 101. Under the crisp autumn sky and moonlight, they spent a beautiful Mid-Autumn night together.

This event embodied ICI’s dedication to respecting and supporting multicultural student communities. By creating platforms for connection beyond the classroom, the college fosters deeper understanding and meaningful bonds among students, reflecting its commitment to accompanying them holistically in both academic and everyday life.
