The International College of Innovation (ICI) and the Centre for Innovative Democracy and Sustainability (CIDS) were honored to welcome Professor Randolph T. Hester, a leading scholar in Ecological Democracy, for an in-depth exchange with our faculty and students. we would like to share this meaningful dialogue—highlighting ICI and CIDS’s continued commitment to sustainability, social design, and democratic innovation.

🔸B.A. Landscape Architecture and Sociology, North Carolina State University
• Research focuses on how citizens participate in spatial design and environmental planning
• Author of Design for Ecological Democracy (MIT Press), a landmark work in the field
Professor Hester is widely recognized as a pioneer in integrating sociology into environmental design and as a leading figure advancing Citizen Science, Environmental Justice, and Stewardship.
